Tell us about your innovation. What is the problem? What solution is Parkers Mobile Clinic offering? What populations are you serving?

Parkers Mobile Clinic's Renal Health Ambassadors (RHA) Program addresses the pervasive issue of kidney disease prevalence in Nigeria, particularly impacting underserved communities with limited access to healthcare. The solution involves deploying telemedicine, community health outreaches and referral partnerships  for early detection screenings, conducting extensive community education on kidney health, and fostering partnerships to provide affordable treatment options. Through focusing on prevention, early intervention, and holistic patient care, the RHA Program aims to mitigate the burden of kidney disease, enhance quality of life, and reduce healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations in Nigeria.

The RHA Program primarily serves low-income communities across South-East Nigeria, where individuals face significant barriers to accessing healthcare services. These populations often include individuals with diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions predisposing them to kidney disease. Through targeting these demographics, the program aims to provide equitable healthcare solutions that address specific needs and improve health outcomes within communities that are traditionally underserved and overlooked.

What is a recent example of progress? What are you currently celebrating?

A recent achievement for the RHA Program is securing 21,000 grant  funding from Villgro Africa through the MMH program. The program is also really celebrating learnings from the Making More Health (MMH) incubation program.

What are the primary challenges Parkers Mobile Clinic is currently facing?

Challenges faced by the RHA Program  involve sustaining financial resources for ongoing operations, effectively scaling services to meet increasing demand, and navigating logistical hurdles to reach remote or marginalised communities with essential healthcare services.

Over the course of developing your innovation, what is something you have learned that stands out and that might help other innovators?

A key lesson from the program's development journey is the importance of flexibility and adaptability in healthcare innovation. Understanding and responding to the unique needs and challenges of communities is crucial for designing effective and sustainable healthcare interventions that make a meaningful impact on public health outcomes.

How has Villgro and the MMH program impacted your growth?

Villgro and the MMH program provided invaluable support through mentorship, access to funding opportunities, and networking with industry experts and peers in the healthcare innovation sector. This support enables the RHA Program to accelerate its growth, refine its strategies, and effectively navigate the complexities of healthcare delivery in resource-constrained settings like Nigeria.
